Ishitobashi (poem for eventual Kid's book)

There is a reason to know, why each stone is thrown
When you sit by a stream, with friends or alone
When we all see a rock, we have the same thought
A need for propulsion whether new born or grown.
“Let a stone lay”, some people might say
"Did you ask its permission before you flung it away?"
But rocks don’t have ears, so they never would hear
Instead they just plead in their own silent way.
“Send me back home, I’ve been so alone”
“The mountain is calling me back to the loam”
Its not quite a whisper, but more like a shiver
Something that tells us that rock should be THROWN!
Whether by skip or by dip, they all take the same trip
They roll and they bounce and start to unzip
The river will take them, smooth and reshape them,
Till all that is left is sand for a ship.
And after we’re gone, and where we belong
The sand might be in the Sea of Hong Kong.
Where others will join, and with pressure conjoin
To the roots of a new mountain right where it belongs.
